President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward promise to the Super Falcons following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria secured a record-extending 10th continental championship.
The National Sports Commission disclosed that the players have started receiving approximately ₦140 million each, representing the naira equivalent of the $100,000 reward announced by the President after the team’s remarkable victory over hosts Morocco in July 2025.
The Super Falcons staged an impressive comeback in the final after falling two goals behind, eventually defeating Morocco to reclaim the African title and further strengthen their position as the most successful women’s national team on the continent.
The team’s captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, appreciated President Tinubu for honouring his commitment, describing the reward as a significant recognition of the players’ hard work and contribution to Nigerian football.
The development highlights the President’s efforts to recognise sporting achievements and encourage Nigerian athletes to continue excelling in international competitions.
Tinubu had earlier made a similar $100,000 reward promise to members of D’Tigress after their victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where they claimed their fifth consecutive continental title.
The National Sports Commission praised the President for his continued support for Nigerian sportsmen and women, noting that rewarding excellence would inspire athletes to achieve even greater milestones.
It added that the President’s commitment has boosted confidence among athletes and sports administrators while promoting a culture of recognition, accountability and national pride.
