The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced temporary traffic diversions and movement restrictions in some parts of Lafia metropolis ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally scheduled to hold on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed that the rally would coincide with President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state.
The police said the event is expected to draw prominent government officials, political leaders, dignitaries from different parts of the country, APC members and supporters to the state capital.
According to Nansel, the command has put comprehensive security and traffic control arrangements in place to guarantee the safety of the President, his entourage, rally participants and residents, while ensuring peace and order throughout the event.
He explained that temporary road diversions and restrictions would be enforced along selected routes, adjoining streets and strategic areas within Lafia to ensure the smooth passage of the presidential convoy, effective crowd control and adequate security.
The command urged motorists, tricycle operators, commercial motorcycle riders and other road users to cooperate with security operatives, obey traffic rules and follow instructions at designated diversion points.
Residents and commuters were also advised to plan their movements in advance, anticipate possible traffic delays, use alternative routes and avoid unnecessary stops or obstruction of major roads leading to the rally venue.
Business owners, transport operators and residents in the affected areas were equally encouraged to make necessary adjustments to their daily activities ahead of the temporary restrictions.
The police spokesperson quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, as appealing to residents to remain calm, exercise patience and cooperate with security agencies during the period.
The commissioner also urged members of the public to avoid unnecessary movement around restricted areas and work with security personnel to ensure the successful conduct of the rally.
He further called on political stakeholders, party supporters and residents to maintain peaceful conduct, warning individuals without legitimate business around the rally venue and restricted security zones to stay away to prevent overcrowding and possible security breaches.
Nansel also appealed to opposition parties and other political groups to refrain from activities capable of threatening public peace, urging them to embrace peaceful political participation.
The command assured residents that sufficient security personnel had been deployed to strategic locations across the metropolis to maintain law and order, regulate traffic and safeguard lives and property before, during and after the rally.
While apologising for any inconvenience the temporary measures might cause, the police appealed for residents’ understanding and cooperation. Members of the public were also encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activities or security threats to the nearest police station.
The rally forms part of the APC’s political engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party had previously organised a North-Central mobilisation rally in Lafia in October, attracting governors, ministers, party chieftains and supporters from across the region to reaffirm their support for President Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s second-term ambition.
The event was organised by the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network and hosted by Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.
