Women from across Taraba State will gather on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at an event hosted by the Governor’s wife, Mrs Agyin Kefas, to celebrate what the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas has achieved in women’s representation, empowerment and welfare over the past three years.
The gathering will provide a platform for women to share testimonies, reflect on the impact of government policies and recognise the role of Mrs Agyin Kefas in mobilising women for progress.
Among the key achievements women will celebrate are;
1. Historic Political Representation: Governor Kefas appointed eight female commissioners and numerous female appointees across government, expanding women’s participation in decision-making and public administration, a level of female representation described as unprecedented in Taraba’s history and a major milestone in Northern Nigeria.
2. A Woman as Deputy Governor: His decision to have a woman as deputy governor marks a significant milestone in Taraba’s political history and reinforces women’s capacity to occupy the highest levels of leadership.
3. Greater Opportunities in Governance: Women have gained appointments as local government council heads, special advisers and holders of other strategic public offices, strengthening their visibility and influence.
4. Free Education: The administration’s free education policy has reduced the financial burden on families and expanded opportunities for children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
5. Free Healthcare Services: Free healthcare services and improvements in health facilities have supported access to essential medical care for women, children and other residents.
6. Poverty Reduction and Family Welfare: Government policies aimed at easing economic hardship have helped address some of the challenges facing households, with education and healthcare support providing important relief.
7. Improved Security: The administration’s security efforts seek to create a safer environment for women to run businesses, pursue opportunities and participate fully in community life.
For Mrs Agyin Kefas, the gathering will also be an opportunity to strengthen solidarity among women and celebrate their contributions to the state’s development.
As the women assemble, the message is clear: under Governor Kefas, women’s representation has become a visible feature of governance in Taraba State, backed by policies intended to improve family welfare and widen access to opportunity.
For Taraba women, it will be a day to count their blessings, celebrate progress and look forward to even greater inclusion in the years ahead.
