The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of robbing a female Point-of-Sale (POS) operator of N200,000 at gunpoint in Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday in Enugu.
According to Ndukwe, police operatives from the Udenu Division, working alongside members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, apprehended the suspect on October 18 at approximately 12:26 p.m.
He explained that the arrest followed a complaint that the suspect allegedly robbed the POS operator at her shop along Old Orba Road, Uhulor, Obollo-Afor, on October 17 at about 9 a.m.
Ndukwe said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim raised the alarm as the suspect fled the scene, allegedly threatening to shoot anyone who attempted to chase him.
He added that a pistol resembling a Beretta and an expended 9mm ammunition shell were recovered from the suspect.
“The suspect has confessed to the crime during interrogation and will be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations,” Ndukwe stated.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, praised the officers involved in the operation and acknowledged the assistance provided by the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
Giwa reaffirmed the command’s determination to tackle criminal activities across the state and urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the police or other recognised security agencies.
