The Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas, has received the Democracy Heroes Award Africa in recognition of his leadership and commitment to good governance and the development of Taraba State.

The award was presented on Friday, October 9, at the 15th edition of the Democracy Heroes Award Africa, held at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

This recognition reflects the growing attention being given to the Kefas administration’s governance priorities and its efforts to reposition Taraba State through people-oriented policies, institutional reforms and development initiatives.

Since assuming office in May 2023, Governor Kefas has pursued an agenda focused on security, education, healthcare, youth development, agricultural growth, infrastructure and improved welfare for civil servants. These priorities are central to his administration’s commitment to building a state where governance translates into tangible benefits for citizens.

In education, the administration has placed considerable emphasis on expanding access to learning, recognising education as a critical instrument for human capital development and long-term economic prosperity.

Its broader development agenda also seeks to strengthen healthcare delivery, create opportunities for young people and improve the conditions necessary for businesses and local enterprises to thrive.

The administration’s focus on agriculture and economic development reflects Taraba’s considerable potential in food production, agro-processing, tourism and other productive sectors capable of generating employment and improving livelihoods.

The Democracy Heroes Award Africa, organised by Face of Democracy Nigeria Projects, recognises individuals whose leadership and contributions support democratic development, public service and societal progress. Governor Kefas was among several prominent political leaders recognised at this year’s ceremony for their contributions to governance and development.

The award is therefore an important recognition of the responsibilities that accompany public leadership. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress recorded in Taraba State and the work that remains necessary to achieve the administration’s development objectives.

For the Kefas administration, the honour reinforces the importance of sustaining policies that promote inclusive growth, strengthen public institutions and improve the quality of life of citizens across the state, irrespective of their political, ethnic or religious affiliations.

While awards provide valuable external recognition, the administration acknowledges that the ultimate measure of good governance remains the confidence of the people, the effectiveness of public institutions and the positive impact of government policies on everyday life.

Governor Kefas remains committed to advancing his administration’s development agenda, consolidating existing gains and pursuing new opportunities capable of positioning Taraba State for greater economic growth, social progress and sustainable development.

Governor Kefas while reacting to the award said, the award is dedicated to the people of Taraba State, whose resilience, cooperation and aspirations continue to inspire the administration’s efforts to build a more prosperous, peaceful and inclusive state.
